Smoothies Are My Thing!

I consider myself an expert smoothie maker. Smoothies are an easy way for me to increase my fruit and veggie intake and are so quick and easy to make it fits perfectly into my schedule. Most mornings I start my day with a smoothie. The best thing is that there are so many possible combinations so it’s almost impossible to mess it up or get bored from having the same taste and flavors. Most importantly, it is as simple as throwing the ingredients in a blender and blending to your liking (I blend for about a minute or less).

My keys to smoothie success are to:

  • Use water as your primary liquid instead of juice or milk. This could save you up to 200 calories.

  • Always add spinach (or at least one veggie). It blends well and does not have to overpower the overall taste of the smoothie.

  • Add Greek yogurt or peanut butter for additional protein. This will help keep you fuller a little longer.

  • Try to use 2 cups of fruit or less.

  • For thicker smoothies, use less liquid.

  • Reduce the risk of wasting fruit buy buying frozen. 

  • If you don’t like the look of browning bananas like me- freeze them and use them for later smoothies.
